The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the formation of political views of N.E. Markov in the peri- od from 1866 to 1905. In modern historical science, his name is associated with a whole direction of political thought, built on the zealous service to the political ideals of Russian monarchism and defending the traditional foundations of life. Based on the materials of archival sources and special literature, the article allows us to consider the distinctive features of the upbringing, social environment and religious worldview in the context of the formation of the monar- chical views of the leader of the right movement in the Kursk province. The study revealed the possible high influence of the social environment in which N.E. Markov was brought up and developed: a conservative father who was disillu- sioned with liberal attitudes; close friends and relatives who adhere to monarchical positions. Special attention is paid in the article to the relation of N.E. Markov to the revolutionary events that took place in the Russian Empire. The restless twentieth century, which manifested itself in political events of various levels: youth unrest, acts of terrorism, peasant uprisings, the Russian-Japanese war, the radicalization of socio-political thought, undoubtedly influenced the activation of Markov in the political arena, who could not look with indifference at the events that arose in his homeland. Already in the first years of the revolution, Markov established himself as one of the leaders of the right-wing current of political thought in the Kursk province. The main goal of his activity in this period, he considered the fight against sedition and betrayal, which engulfed the entire province and the country as a whole.
