The article examines the main components of the legal status of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment, analyzes the methods and types of penal regulation, aspects of the implementation of the rights and obligations of prisoners sen- tenced to imprisonment in the framework of criminal executive legal relations.The article analyzes the author's concepts and elements of the legal status of those sentenced to imprisonment.The author tries to look at the rights and obligations of those sentenced to imprisonment from the point of view of the theory of law, the implementation of the principle of humanism, differentiation and individualization of punish- ment, ensuring the goals and objectives of penal legislation, requirements of necessity and sufficiency.The author studies the negative consequences of legal regulation of the status of those sentenced to deprivation and dwells on the most problematic aspects of the area under consideration.The study of the theoretical and practical aspects of the legal status of those sentenced to imprisonment allows the author to propose certain measures to improve them.The use of methods of induction, deduction, analysis and synthesis made it possible to formulate well-founded conclusions. The comparative legal method was used to identify features and gaps in legal regulation, as well as when developing proposals for amendments and additions to laws and regulations.Obtaining empirical material was carried out using a specific sociological survey method (questioning and inter- viewing) employees of correctional institutions.
