The priority task of the National Project "Education" is to ensure high quality and accessibility of educational ser- vices using modern digital technologies. One of the most widely used innovative e-learning technologies is online courses. However, despite the widespread use of them in the training process by Russian universities, the existing online courses’ structure and content do not take into account the specifics of the corresponding direction of training. In this regard, the article offers the author's definition of online courses, which needs to be legally regulated at the legisla- tive level. Particular attention is paid to the introduction of new elements in the content of online courses in accordance with the competency-based approach to the professional training of law students in the digital era. Developed with the requirements suggested in the article, online courses will help improve the quality, accessibility, and prestige of the legal career.
