The article is devoted to one of the topical problems of linguistics - the study of the verbalization of the concept«city» in the text of the story «High water of the Venetians» by D. Rubina. Consideration of the concept «city» is espe- cially interesting, since it constitutes a philosophical plan for the narrative, reflects the writer’s understanding of the essence of being.The main research method is the philological analysis of the text (semantic-stylistic and contextual techniques). We have identified, systematized and analyzed various ways of representing the concept: the lexical units verbalizing the specified concept are indicated, the frequency of the use of lexemes representing the nuclear zone, the zone of the near and far periphery of the concept is noted; their lexical compatibility, their role in the expression of the author's prag- matics is indicated.The article proves that the concept of «city» in the text of a work of art significantly expands the semantics, ac- quires occasional meanings, which leads to changes in the structural and semantic characteristics of the concept and determines its uniqueness associated with the peculiarities of the artist's perception.
