Abstract
In the article, based on an analysis of various sources, i.e. Congressional Hearings, documentation of the U.S. Department of State, the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives at Central European University and the Wilson Center Digital Archive, containing declassified documents on the organization of the work of foreign radio broadcasting, digitized audio recordings of broadcasts of American radio stations, as well as statistical data, study the features of the formation of radio propaganda during the Cold War. It is shown that external radio broadcasting, despite the measures of electronic warfare taken by the USSR, found their audience among Soviet citizens, thus becoming an important component of the U.S. containment strategy, which guided the foreign policy of the United States in the second half of the 20th century.
