The article presents an analysis of demographic processes in the Gorky region in 1939-1945. The author defines the main components of the change in the population of the Gorky region and gives their characteristics. Structural and non-structural characteristics of demographic processes in the period under study are determined. Thanks to the accelerated development of the health care system and demographic policy measures, in 1943-1944 there is a stabilization in the dynamics of demographic processes, and in 1944-1945. Positive trends are observed despite the fact that the consequences of the war will have a negative impact on the demographic situation in the region in the post-war period.
