The paper describes the functions of the constructions with "бывало" in the prose works by I.S. Turgenev. The methods of comparative, stylistic and contextual analysis are used. It is shown that the semantics of the particle "бывало" and its syntactic function determine the text functions of the constructions under analysis (the subjectification of the narration, the representation of subjective time, the organization of the interlocutor monologues). It is proved that the interaction of the constructions with "бывало" and verb forms of past tense or verb forms of the present and future tenses in the framework of one piece is of great significance and is conditioned by the author's narrative strategies. It is noted that the analyzed constructions participate in the design of narratives of the primary narrator and the narrator-character, time plans of the narrative, text fragments with different author's modality.
