The article is devoted to the Ogaden War of 1977-1978 on the pages of the Soviet newspaper Pravda. Analysis of materials about events in Africa shows that this periodical actively used methods of disinformation, lobbying and propaganda to form a sense of solidarity among Soviet people with the nations of the African continent who chose the "socialist path of development", creating an image of the enemy in the face of the United States and its allies supporting "dictatorial regimes" in Africa. At the same time, some parties of the conflict, in particular, the presence of Soviet and Cuban military in the war zone, were deliberately hushed up. Despite the large number of published articles (172), information about military operations, the balance of forces, the true causes of the conflict is fragmentary, fragmentary and insufficient to recreate a complete objective picture of the Ethiopian-Somali confrontation. In this regard, it should be noted that this array of information requires serious critical analysis when using it as a historical source. At the same time, these materials can be interest to scientists from the point of view of studying the forms and methods used by the media of the two blocks in the ideological confrontation during the Cold War.
