Abstract
The article analyzes the actions of an army that rebelled in Thrace against the Byzantine emperor Maurice in 602. The reasons for the mutiny, as well as the relationship between the rebels and candidates for the imperial throne, were the subject of research. The author, in addition to Greek sources, drew on the works of Middle Eastern authors. This made it possible to clarify the sequence of events that took place in Byzantium during the political crisis in the fall of 602.
