On the basis of the study, it was concluded that modern methods of investigation do not meet the needs of the time due to the imperfection of the forensic characteristics of crimes. The formation of private methods of investigating crimes is proposed to be based on the initial identification and subsequent characterization (description) of the material elements that make up the structure of any criminal act. Named and briefly presented are the general elements of the material structure of crimes, the knowledge of which determines the direction of improving the methodological support for the investigation of crimes.
