The purpose of this article is to analyze the linguistic expression of the semantic content of the concept of WOMAN in the prose texts of L. Petrushevskaya. The analysis of the paradigmatic and syntagmatic connections of the lexeme woman made it possible to identify its linguistic and contextual meanings, on the basis of which the cognitive features of the corresponding concept were formulated using the semantic-cognitive method. The semantic content of the concept was described in terms of the core and periphery. Conclusions: the substantive dominant of the semantic content of the concept is the opposition of a woman to a man by gender; the zone near the core concept is formed by a feature that characterizes the main function of a woman; the periphery of the concept is voluminous and includes features of the informational and interpretative fields that express the national and individual author's idea of a woman; archetypal and individual components of meaning are found in the content of the concept, participating in the formation of a generalized artistic image of a woman in the works of L. Petrushevskaya.
