The article is devoted to the political scandal at the German Catholic Congress (Katholikentag), held in Munich in 1922. It is concluded that the clash between Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber, Archbishop of Munich and Freising, and Congress President Konrad Adenauer demonstrates the lack of unity among German Catholics in relation to the November Revolution and to the Weimar Republic as a whole. This paper also examines the extent to which Apostolic Nuncio Eugenio Pacelli was involved in this dispute. The future Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) was an honored guest at the Congress and a witness to the conflict.
