The given article touches upon English phraseological units objectifying the concept “cat”. The phraseological units under description, being the object of the work, are characterized by the of evaluative component of their meanings. The purpose of the article is the study of the axiological potential built in the concept “cat”, which is a relevant element of the meaning of the concept under consideration being both a linguistic phenomenon and the element of speech. The speech representation of the given concept is made on the basis of the analysis of publicist and fiction pieces. The method of cognitive modeling is used in the paper as the method of study the given units as elements of the language. English phraseological units embody different mental models, which reflect the evaluative character of the studied concept. In this case the studied models serve as the basis of objectification of different evaluative features, both positive and negative. Phraseological units as elements of speech are studied using corps analysis.
