The paper presents the first stage of a complexe description of the concept “Rodina” (“Homeland”) in the Russian language picture of the world in linguo-culturological aspect on a linguo-cognitive basis. We proceed from the fact that ideas about the Homeland in the Russian national conceptual sphere are distinguished by increased cultural significance and contain both universal and ethno-specific semantic components. The purpose of the study is to provide a linguistic explication of the semantic content of this concept by identifying basic cognitive features based on the analysis of dictionary interpretations of the concept's name - the lexeme “Rodina” (“Homeland”). At the initial stage, according to the accepted conception of the study, the extralinguistic content of the idea of the native land in Russian culture is considered, which is carried out on the basis of authoritative texts of culture, summarized in the dictionary by Yu.S. Stepanov “Constants: Dictionary of Russian Culture” and in the works of D.S. Likhachev. Also, the material of the study is the data of the main Russian etymological, historical and explanatory dictionaries. The work uses the integrative methodology of conceptual analysis adopted in the Volgograd, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod and Tambov conceptological schools. As a result of the study, the core of the conceptual content for the analyzed concept was modeled and its basic semantic volume was determined.
