The authors study the contradictory aspects of the self-determination of the Russian intelligentsia in the conditions of the crisis of the modern world. Considerable attention is paid to the scientific heritage of Professor V.P. Rakov, who paved new paths in the study of the intelligentsia. The main place in the article is occupied by the analysis of trends in the development of the Russian intelligentsia during the global crisis. The main trends among the Russian intelligentsia and their social preferences are revealed. There are deep divisions that have emerged within the Russian intelligentsia. The authors outline possible ways to resolve the difficult problems of the social existence of the Russian intelligentsia in a crisis.
