The article deals with the problems of legal regulation in the field of objects subject to state protection in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main similarities between the countries concerning the specifics of objects subject to state protection, the composition of subjects authorized to protect them, as well as the existing differences are identified on the basis of comparative research method. Among the latter an important place is occupied by the absence in Russia of a basic law on protection activities, as a result of which the legal regulation of the protection of objects subject to state protection is based on an array of heterogeneous profile normative legal acts, does not meet the requirements of consistency and consistency. The author concludes that it is necessary to improve the legal framework for state protection of objects, which should include the unification of legislation and the establishment of additional identification features for objects subject to state protection.
