The subject of the study was phraseological units containing the characteristics and assessment of a Russian woman in her attitude to the world around her, family, man, life, etc., which constitutes a specific image of a woman formed from the typical properties of her character, appearance, behavior, intelligence, which are manifested in typical situations. The paper aimed to identify the image of a Russian woman captured in phraseological units of different periods of social development, partly in aphorisms and mini-jokes close in figurativeness and accuracy to phraseological units. The features of the image of a Russian woman, captured in phraseological units reflecting different social periods, and partially in the texts of small speech genres, were described from the semantic, etymological, and stylistic points of view. It is demonstrated that, in general, a woman is presented in a joking or ironic way, which is typical of Russian laughter culture.
