The article is devoted to the study of the Russian linguistic mentality on the basis of Russian proverbs devoted to the culturally significant concepts of "war - peace". A binary field model is built that represents the stereotypical ideas of Russians about these concepts. The creation of an invariant of the use of these units in paremiology begins with an analysis of the semantics of nuclear semanthemes, the features of their use, a comparison of value judgments fixed in the meanings of words, set expressions, and the semantic-structural organization of paremias. The resulting model reveals the value content of the semanthemes on which cultural stereotypes are built. The structure of the model is based on links-oppositions, in which important synonymous and antonymic links are fixed. The study revealed stereotypical ideas about war and peace in the Russian language mentality. The binary model "war - peace" represents the stereotypical ideas about the most important forms of human life. War is perceived as a temporary confrontation of people, peoples, contrary to the humanistic worldview. It is associated with death, blood, the loss of loved ones. The semantheme contains negative connotations. The strength of the people is in kindness, unity. Thanks to the friendship and unity of people, it is possible to win and stop wars. When analyzing the value component of semanthemes, the polar appraisal of wartime and peacetime was revealed, on the basis of which stable links are formed (destroy - build, good - evil). The Russian linguistic mentality attaches a predominantly positive assessment to the world, as well as to the war of liberation, and the defense of the Motherland is approved.
