The experience of reconstructing the biography of one of the little-known heroes of the Time of Troubles, Prince Sila Ivanovich Gagarin, is presented. All available sources and reliable information from historiography were used for the reconstruction. It was possible to restore three episodes of the prince's biography - Gagarin's service in the Siberian city of Tara, his participation in the defense of Yaroslavl and in organizing the defense of Pereslavl. These episodes are placed in the historical context of the formation of the national liberation movement during the Time of Troubles. The methodological issues of the biography of the Time of Troubles are considered.
