On the material of texts of various subjects from important all-Russian newspapers and the National Corpus of the Russian Language, gazetisms are studied - lexical units used mainly in newspaper and journalistic discourse, which show a certain frequency and an emotionally expressive assessment. Based on the analysis of the semantic characteristics ofgazetisms, a classification in 16 lexical-thematic groups has been done (Politics, Society, People/Relationships, Characterization/Evaluation, Communication, Economics, Power/Management, Health, Technology, Ideology, Creativity/Art, Time, Geography, Objects /Infrastructure, Substance, Sports). It is noted that the most frequent thematic groups are Politics and Society, which reflects the predominance of socio-political topics in modern Russian media.
