The article is devoted to the history of the mordovian settlements of Ivantsevo, Shandrovo, Atingeyevo, Saldamanovo and Kalapino in the period from the end of the 16th to the end of the 17th centuries. They are located in the west of the Zalesny camp of the Arzamas district (now the settlements belongs to the Lukoyanovsky and Shatkovsky districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region). Sources - Arzamas local acts, scribes and census books (T.V. Izmailova and N.I. Chaplin, F.E. Lyzlova and V.N. Kireeva). Based on the data presented in the sources, sections of the existence of these settlements in the designated period are considered, changes in land boundaries, the status of villages, the amount of tax taxes are traced, the composition and directions of population migration are detailed. In addition, the work of the state apparatus of Arzamas is evaluated. Its representatives resolved disputed land issues between servicemen and the mordovian population.
