The Russian labor market is experiencing a shortage of qualified personnel and at the same time there is a need to use the labor potential of the elderly people, as the Russian population is rapidly aging. The article analyzes the issue of how the state policy of Russia in the field of additional professional education for the elderly people can contribute to their employment. The legal framework in this area and existing state programs are considered. An attempt is made to generalize the existing measures of state policy, to identify some problems in the field of effective implementation of programs. It emphasizes the lack of official data on the impact of results on the level of employment of the elderly and the insufficient coverage of these measures by this category of the population in Russia.
