The purpose of the article is to describe the expressive syntactic constructions in the text of the work of Archpriest Avvakum «The Book of Interpretations and Morals». Observation, description, analysis of direct components, contextual analysis are involved as research methods. Thanks to the use of these methods in the work of Archpriest Avvakum, such expressive means as nominative themes, parceled question-answer and exclamatory constructions, including rhetorical questions and rhetorical exclamations, lexical repetition with syntactic distribution were revealed. It is proved that the text of the «Book of Interpretations…» is characterized not only by the above «pure» types of sentences, but also by a combination of these types. This makes it possible to achieve the communicative effect that Avvakum needs, when the tonic, phonetics, and morphology are subject to syntax. Our analysis confirms the expressiveness of the whole work, and once again proves the archpriest's stylistic instinct, surprising for the seventeenth century.
