Patriotism in a small town on the example of Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod region, is considered as a basic unifying value that promotes territorial development, its types, levels and components are distinguished. Local patriotism is considered as an important component of patriotism and an independent phenomenon.The paper presents the results of a sociological study conducted in October 2022 by the team of the Department of Sociology of Project Activities and Pro-Competitive Regulation of NNGU named after N.I. Lobachevsky within the framework of the project on the creation of a system of cognitive modelling of territorial education management processes, dedicated to the study of the socio-political situation in the town of Gorodets. The research included a survey of 1000 people and a number of focus groups. The materials of this study show the specifics of local patriotism of the residents of Gorodets. Although the overwhelming majority of Gorodets residents consider themselves patriots, they have different reasons to be proud of their small motherland. Special attention is paid to the socio-demographic specifics of local patriotism, including the patriotism of young people. The example of tourist development shows the readiness of representatives of different groups of participants.
