Abstract
The published epistolary materials are an important source about the Shamonin family who lived in Nizhny Novgorod. Their author is a teacher of the Nizhny Novgorod gymnasium, of noble origin S.N. Shamonin. In 1906, her husband died and she was left with 6 children of different ages. They are the main characters of the letters addressed to the sister-in-law Nadezhda Nikolaevna Platonova, the wife of an outstanding Russian historian. Active mutual correspondence begins in 1910, although its beginning dates back to 1896. Warm, friendly, and truly family relations are established between the correspondents, which will continue until 1928 - the year of Nadezhda Nikolaevna's passing away. Everyday life, financial difficulties, successes and problems in children's studies, their physical health and illnesses - everything is reflected in the pages of letters. The search for a path in the life of the eldest daughter, her willingness to go to a monastery, gives the mother a lot of bitterness.
