The article analyzes Russian publications devoted to the ideology of Hindu nationalism, which currently occupies a leading position in India. Hindu nationalism as an ideology began to take shape at the end of the 19th century and received noticeable development in the first half of the 20th century. during the national liberation movement in India. After that India have gained independence, the Hindu nationalism became the main ideological opponent to secular Indian nationalism, which is represented by the Indian National Congress. The stages of development of the ideology of Hindu nationalism, the main differences in its coverage between the historical thought of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods and the reasons for the divergence of views of representatives of the two eras of Russian historiography are shown. The coverage by Russian experts of the activities of organizations that are trying to put these ideas into practice has also been studied.
