The article examines one of the aspects of the Armory's activities to provide specific attributes of ceremonial events of the Russian court in the last third of the XVII century. The issue of making canvas and paper wings for equipping riders who participated in the ceremonies of welcoming foreign embassies is being considered. Based on the analysis of a wide range of sources, the design of the wings, their number in different years, and the names and specialties of the craftsmen who worked on their manufacture were studied. Descriptions of the effect of demonstrations of «winged horsemen» in the records of the ambassadorial chancellery are also being investigated.
