The principle of targeting is considered as a new principle of social security law. Its goals, essence, criteria, interaction with other industry principles are determined. The features of the targeted approach in the provision of social assistance measures are revealed. The legislation fixing the principle of targeting and the works of legal scholars are analyzed. It is concluded that the further development of the principle of targeting in the legal aspect should go in cooperation with the principle of justice, contribute to the activation of citizens' personal resources for independent life support.
