The paper aims at revealing the axiology of the scripture based on a formal content based analysis of a text. The analysis is based on Book 20 The Proverbs from King James Version of the Bible . Markemological approach to a text analysis and its main method of markeme analysis of a literary text language represent the analysis methodology. The text being processed with a special computer program, some 51 markemes were identified. Markemology considers markemes as a special kind of key words, which possess supreme informative value in the text under study. Their analysis made it possible to identify two major markemes in the proverbs. Understanding is the dominant markeme and righteousness is the vice-dominant one. The procedure of two-staged semantic classification of markemes enabled to distribute them into eight semantic sets, to stratify the semantic sets and to determine the major ones. The most important semanticsets are the following ones: fundamental notions, mental and perceptive markemes, social markemes, moral and ethical markemes and interpersonal markemes. Both markemes stratification and quantitative and qualitative analysis of the semantic sets make it possible to draw the conclusion that in The Proverbs markemes, which carry negative connotation outweigh markemes, which carry positive one. Negative markemes focus primarily on spiritual depravity of man, while positive markemes point major biblical notions and basic moral and ethical qualities of man. Such a balance of markemes relies on the main idea of the book, which is to show man’s vices and the following punishment and to teach a man how to find Kingdom of God.
