Currently, the Russian Federation occupies one of the leading places in the production, consumption and export of almost all types of energy resources. Global trends in the development of economic, social and political relations set new tasks for the development and modernization of the energy sector. The Energy Strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2035 provides for the need for structural diversification, digital transformation and intellectualization of the fuel and energy complex industries, optimization of the spatial placement of energy infrastructure and reduction of the negative impact on the environment. Technical regulation plays a leading role in achieving these goals. The subject of the study of this article is public relations that develop during the development, adoption, application and implementation of mandatory requirements for machinery and equipment used in the fuel and energy complex, including buildings and structures, as well as assessment of their compliance. The article considers such aspects as technical regulation systems in the energy sector, objects of technical regulation, features of the established mandatory requirements, reveals the problems of technical regulation in the field of renewable energy sources. Within the framework of this study, using the means of system analysis, comparative legal, formal logical and other methods used by legal sciences, the potential of technical regulation for the purpose of further development of the energy sector is analyzed.
