The article is devoted to the female names word formation description methods in the modern Russian literary language. Despite the fact that many linguists emphasize the importance of studying the methods of word formation of groups of motivated words, in researches devoted to the study of the word-formation category of “femininity”, the attention of researchers is often focused on the composition and structure of the category. Certain semantic word-formation group forming words the ways studying is the first step towards identifying the composition and structure of a word-formation category. The result of the analysis was the identification and detailed description of four methods of word formation for female names in the modern Russian literary language, and conclusions were drawn about their frequency and productivity at the present time.
