The results of professional skills development of the teachers of universities and vocational schools of the Volga Federal District under the programs «Modern pedagogical technologies» and «Modern pedagogical and information technologies» are presented. These programs are realized within the framework of the ministerial program of professional skills development of the teaching staff of universities and vocational schools and supervised by Federal agency of education.
The role of active methods of training in solving current problems of educational process in universities and vocational schools are discussed.
