The article investigates non-equivalent linguistic units and lacunas in the Russian language and in the English language. The comparison of these units is particularly important for thorough understanding of national concepts originality and peculiarity. Theoretical discourse is supplemented and supported with lexical and semantic analysis of 'kara' linguistic unit in the Russian language. Linguistic and cognitive research recognizes the complete absence of unique specific means for the verbal expression of this item in the English language, thus providing us the basis for suggesting that the related concept is also missing in the English system of concepts.
