Abstract
Access to information and gradual transition to information society at the present stage of high technology development have put important tasks before higher educational establishments providing journalism training. In market economy conditions, it is necessary for media business and academic community to interact in order to devise the requirements for professional competence of journalism department graduates. The development of the set of disciplines in social sciences and the humanities has to be considered an integral part of training in journalism. At the same time, a full-fledged journalism education in Russia is impossible without improving teaching methods and diversification of curricula and programmes that are most adequately realized in the system of the Master's course of training.
