This paper is an attempt at investigating the process of cultural adaptation in the Old English language. One of
the ways of cultural adaptation is borrowing. The translated literature at that period of time was mostly of religious
meaning, so borrowings related to religious terminology. As borrowings entered the Old English language through
written texts rather than orally, they often retained their original form. One of the evidences of entrance of borrowed
words into the language was a wide usage of new derivative forms.
