The dynamic aspect of word-formation in the Russian language is considered, including the functions of wordformation,
the contribution of derivative words in the system of nominative means of the language, and the conditions
for the functioning of the word-formation mechanism. In modern derivation processes, borrowed prepositive
parts are widely used (anti-, arch-, hyper-, quasi-, counter-, super, ultra- ). New words reflect the speaker’s vision
and evaluation of the phenomena of the surrounding reality. One can observe a trend to use one-word nomination.
Thus, the newly-derived words not only serve in the media as a means to reflect socially and culturally significant
realities of the modern world, but also as a tool for their expressive evaluation.
