The author studies the interrelation of the ideas and images of the Gospel with the poetics of Dostoyevsky’s
novel “Crime and Punishment”. It is shown that the original manner of Dostoyevsky’s writing is determined by his
Orthodox world view. Using the heritage of European classical literature and continuing Pushkin’s traditions in Russian
literature, he creates a special genre of realistic novel, which is a result of the synthesis of the form of traditional
secular literature and spiritual Christian contents. The core of this novel is the search for the ways to human soul’s
salvation after the fall of man. Since, according to Dostoyevsky, Orthodoxy is inseparably connected with Russia’s
historical destiny, his novel about one person’s salvation becomes a novel about the ways to salvation for Russia and
the whole mankind.
