Abstract
The 16th and 17th centuries witnessed a gradual transition from religious conceptions to rationalism in the ideology of international relations. The author offers an analysis of the development of the most important political and legal institution – the theory of just war – in the Early Modern period, with a special focus on the investigation of the concept of Hugo Grotius, the founder of international law science.
