A study of the experience of commercialization of research and development results in US universities is presented. The legislative base and principal state programs directed at supporting knowledge and technologies transfer are described. In a case study of leading American universities, organizational forms of innovative activity in higher educational institutions, its main directions and results are described. This activity requires significant support from the state and the private sector, which is proved by some concrete data. Some issues related to the interaction of universities and corporations, attendant problems, and ways of optimization of such collaboration are also considered.
