Based on the example of a university research institute, the role of real integration of science and education in
the training of highly-skilled personnel for the regions petrochemical complex, and in fundamental and applied
research as major factors of innovative development of the society is analyzed. It is shown that the Research Institute
for Chemistry of N.I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod is indeed an actively functioning research
and education centre with a vast experience in innovative activity.
