The tradition of research into the ?biblical antiquities? in Kiev Orthodox Theological Academy is considered.
The influence on this tradition of such factors as European biblical criticism and interdisciplinary nature of biblical
culture is discussed. It is argued that the development of Western biblical criticism prompted the efforts of native
biblicists to determine the place and significance of the new knowledge for Orthodox theology. The tendencies to
use the cultural and confessional interaction for reconstruction of historical, cultural and literary-linguistic context of
biblical messages were manifested in native Orthodoxy.
