The problem of determining the place of computer games in contemporary culture is discussed. The main
question is whether a computer game can be considered a form of art, and what are the grounds for stating this. In the
context of the 20-th century traditions of «game culture», the author concludes that only some computer games can be
defined as a new art since they correspond to the very purpose of art. The theoretical statements can be illustrated
by the following two examples of the modern media industry - video games «Pathologic» and «Tension» (Ice-Pick
Lodge development studio). |
