| The social status of women composers in European musical culture of the 19th century is considered. A special
emphasis is made on the fact that during the whole century there was a contradiction between the roles of «composer»,
«mother», «householder» and «wife», which could not be combined, in the majoritys opinion. Besides, in spite
of their evident achievements in the sphere of music, women composers did not get the recognition they deserved from
their contemporaries. |
