Phytohormone content of the underground shoots and distribution of assimilates in long-rhizome species with
different seasonal rhythm of development have been studied. Rhizomes of summer-green species are characterized
by a high level of free hormones: cytokinins, auxins and abscisic acid in summer. The labelled carbon is transported
to underground shoots sarments (Achillea millefolium) and rhizomes (Mentha arvensis). Evergreen species contain
low concentrations of hormones in rhizomes and reserve assimilates in perennial aboveground shoots (Vaccinium
vitis-idaea) or use them for the formation of leaves which grow during the year (Pyrola rotundifolia). |
