Abstract
The main functions of the dative case in Indo-European and Turkic languages are the designation of the addressee of the action and the direction of the motion; however, in synthetic and analytical languages the paradigms of the dative case have their own peculiarities in any particular manifestation. The principal distinctions concern the government of the dative case by verbs, nouns, adjectives, and prepositions, what shows that these phenomena do not have a universal character.
