Abstract
Ageing mechanisms of gas-main pipeline low-carbon, low-alloy steels have been described. Pipe steel ageing has been shown to be caused by diffusion-controlled motion of carbon atoms towards lattice defects, as well as by precipitation of carbide particles on ferrite grain boundaries. It has also been shown that steel ageing process leads to a decrease of macroelastic limit.
