A model has been described of stress-corrosion crack (SCC) origin in low-carbon, low-alloy steels of different chemical and phase content. The steel macroelastic limit has been found to be a threshold stress for the SCC process. Steel ageing in the process of prolonged service has also been found to lead to a decrease in the SCC incubation period and the destructive stress threshold. |
