993-996 | interaction of arts, the problem of music and word |
The paper reviews the problem of word and music interaction on the example of collaboration between
R. Strauss and H. von Hofmannsthal. The author concludes that the creative union of Hofmannsthal and Strauss fits
the pattern of composer-librettist alliance during their work on Electra. However, the creation of the stage plays
Ariadne on Naxos and The Egyptian Helena was based upon different principles, in many ways analogous to the
Nietzschean conception of correlation between word and music. |
