Abstract
Y2O3 and Nd:Y2O3 nanopowders have been prepared from yttrium and neodymium acetonitrates by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Thermodynamic analysis of the process has shown SHS to be expe-dient at a small surplus of an oxidant. The morphology of the powders has been investigated by scanning transmis-sion electron microscopy and X-ray analysis. A comparison has been made of luminescent properties and the impuri-ty composition of the powders with laser ceramics data published elsewhere.
