An optimal design problem is considered of a variable-rigidity cantilever beam by the criterion of stability. The free end of the cantilever beam is loaded in tension by a force applied to it through an attached absolutely rigid rod. The problem solution is sought in a closed analytical form. The bifurcation of the equilibrium form of the optimal beam is shown to take place for a certain ratio of the rigid rod and the cantilever beam lengths. The conditions for the bifurcation occurrence are formulated, the values of optimal characteristics are determined, the asymptotic analy-sis of optimal solutions is presented.
